Elysium Magazine was invited to a special screening of the movie in London. So what did we think of the movie? Read on to find out.

The highly anticipated new drama from director Derek Cianfrance (“Blue Valentine“) powerfully explores the consequences of motorcycle rider Luke’s (Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling) fateful decision to commit a crime to support his child. The incident renders him targeted by policeman Avery (Golden Globe Award nominee Bradley Cooper), and the two men become locked on a tense collision course, which will have a devastating impact on both of their families in the years following.

The film is visually stunning with breath taking cinematography. Derek Cianfrance not only re-affirms his successful working relationship with Ryan Gosling but demonstrates just how far his directorial skills have developed since 2010’s Blue Valentine.

The final part of the film felt slightly rushed as it attempts to tie the loose ends of the story together, and would have perhaps benefitted from a more thorough edit in the slower-moving earlier stages of the movie.

Despite this, The Place Beyond The Pines is hauntingly powerful and will be remembered by green-eyed Gosling fans as more than just the movie that brought him and Eva Mendes together.

Elysium Magazine enjoyed the movie, while we love a good action flick, the movie provided much more depth which stuck a cord. The Place Beyond The Pines is out on general release now.
