Elysium Magazine was invited to Pied a Terre and we were excited. One of London’s longest standing Michelin star holding restaurants with a vegan menu, we knew a lot was expected but would it hold up to our high standards? Read on to find out.
The Look, The feel
The restaurant is located on the super trendy Charlotte street in London, buzzing with local media workers and tourists. The restaurant has a small and distinct façade but upon entering it feels like home. We all receive a warm welcome from the host who walks us to the main dining area. It feels special; there is limited seating but it is busy mid-week. Clearly there is huge demand for a table and we were certainly made a to feel we were part of something exclusive.
The Main Event
The chef wanted us to be put directly in his hands when it came to the food. Letting go we were happy to go with his recommendation and we were so glad we did.
To start we were presented with entrees, which not only looked amazing but also were an amazing start the evening (to the envy of all on Instagram). A selection of feta in egg shells, beetroot still in gardening pots and beautifully presented Carpaccio. The small delights meant we were certainly excited about this evening, which was not only about the food, but also about the service and the stories behind each dish.
A few rounds of drinks later, our mains were presented. A beautiful sea bass followed by, what we agreed, the best lamb shank we had tasted in London. The dishes looked so good that camera flashes ensued from neighbouring tables. Another one for social media.
After a wave of dishes, the taster menu kept on giving – straight into desserts. A brilliant cheese board really gave us a selection of flavours from the UK and we even tasted some new flavours that the restaurant was trying with select guests for feedback. After a breather we went into the ice cream finisher, which was a great twist on a dessert. As expected from the welcome, the evening delivered across all fronts.
Verdict
Pied a Terre has built a reputation on its food and we saw first hand that a lot of effort has gone into making this happen. A fantastic team work every hard and meet every need of its customers, despite the success and great reputation the chef remains humble and always seeking feedback. The high standards are apparent across all the staff which is what makes Pied a Terre perfect.
