Sometimes there are things in this world that have the power to unite the world in a way rarely seen. This week the world experienced this in the form of a 30min campaign video that spread across social networks faster that a leaked Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian ‘home movie’.

The video in question, Kony 2012, has so far been viewed more that 65 million times in just a few days to date. It continues to ignite the passion and desire of millions to make sure a tyrant in Uganda is brought to justice, stopping more that 20 years of crimes against children.

Joseph Kony has, for far too, long been allowed to abduct children – forcing the boys into his child army and the girls into a life of rape and sexual abuse. The video shows how one boy describes how he’d rather be dead than keep living a life where he’s in constant fear of abduction and ultimately death at the hands of Kony. No child should be allowed to give up hope but his predicament, and the longevity of it, had broken him. It has no doubt broken thousands of other kids just like him too.

The moving video, demonstrates how the power of a unified collective has the power to make the most powerful nation in the world, the US, stand up and take notice. Most importantly it made them act.

Social media is a powerful tool, but this shows how hitting the sweet spot of viral sharing can spread quicker than a global pandemic. It’s an example of great viral marketing.

2012 is the year Kony is brought to justice. Play your part as any discerning gent would. Sign the petition, donate to the cause, or at the very least share the video to spread awareness of this cause.
