Yes it’s that time of the year again. Right before Christmas! Movember, the month formerly known as November, is back. Returning in force to raise awareness and funding for men’s health – specifically prostate and testicular cancer.
Facial Fuzz
How do men show their support for the cause? Quite simply by growing a moustache for the entire 30 days of the month. For this month the moustache is the ribbon for men’s health. The discerning gent, or ‘Mo Bro’, will cultivate his upper lip hair and become a walking, talking advertisement for the 30 days of Movember. He’ll get sponsored by his partner, friends and family, thus raising vital funds and putting the spotlight around the often taboo issues of men’s health. The supporting lady (or ladies you lucky devil) of said Mo Bro, his ‘Mo Sistas’, get involved by raising awareness of his courageous feat.
Why Grow A Mo?
There is of course a serious tone underneath the bravado and fun of growing a Mo. The scary numbers speak for themselves. One in nine men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer every 15 minutes. One man will die from prostate cancer every hour – that’s more than 10,000 discerning gents each year. It’s comparable to the rates of breast cancer in women. Frightening stuff you’ll agree. Testicular cancer is just as bad, with more than 2,200 UK men diagnosed in 2009 alone.
So for the next 30 days consider yourself a Moustache Merchant. Start clean shaven today and let that glorious Mo grow – strictly no beards allowed. Embrace the inner Magnum P.I. or Burt Reynolds in you and become part of this movement. Do your part to amplify the message of men’s health issues.
Last year Movember raised a staggering £22 million going to Prostate Cancer UK and The Institute of Cancer research. This year it will be bigger, and you can help make it bigger. Did we mention the huge fancy dress parties up and down the country at the end of the month in celebration of the might Mo? That’s an incentive all on its own!
