Well, 2014 has seen another year of excellence for the discerning gent across many disciplines but which of these men has made Elysium Magazine’s Men of the Year 2014 list? It has been a tough choice but those men before you below have made the distinguished cut, reaching one level or more above their peers to make this illustrious annual list. So take  look at the discerning gents Elysium Magazine deem most worthy as Men of the Year 2014.

Dr. Dre

Has Dr. Dre, real name Andre Young, got the midas touch within the music industry? The veteran rapper has been giving us eargasms with his sound for many years but it was his venture with Beats headphones which started in 2003 that saw the good doctor reap £395 million in May 2014 when Apple brought the company for $3 billion. The sale ensured that Dr. Dre stash made up more than half of the $1.4 billion in total from the top ten performers in the music industry without having to pick up the microphone. Nicely done doctor.

Matthew McConaughey

Before 2014 Matthew was the go-to actor for the dreary rom-com movie, but Dallas Buyers Club changed everything for the man who liked to lose his top. Picking up an Oscar for the lead role and a host of more cerebral roles in the pipeline, this was the year people stood up to take note of Matthew McConaughey the serious actor. There’s more of the same from the big Texan in 2015 we suspect.

Joachim Loew

The German national team coach has just finished his most stellar year in international club management. Not only did he win the big one, the World Cup 2014, but he won it in some style by spanking the boys from Brazil 7-1 in their own backyard en route to the final.  The journey to world champion has been a long one for the German but he’s kept knocking at the door following close calls through 2008, 2010 and 2012 international tournaments but nothing was going to stop him this year. And he’s done it as probably the most stylish man on the touchlines too.

Lewis Hamilton

Someone needed to break the stranglehold Sebastian Vettel held on the F1 drivers championship and this year Lewis took that challenge by the horns. Questions were asked about his desire to follow up his only other championship success in 2008, this has been a long time coming but a sweet victory nonetheless for the speed merchant. He then followed this up win up by being crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year earlier in December to cap a fine year indeed.
