Whether the discerning gent is thinking about adding something new to his own established collection or getting something new for another discerning drinker, it’s always to grow a collection. Focusing on someone else’s collection for one moment, next month is Father’s Day (18th June) and what better gift of appreciation for the man that taught you so much in life than a new tipple? Exactly. So this month Elysium Magazine would like to introduce the discerning gent, or his father, to Bowmore Vault Edition whisky.
Bowmore Vault Edition is a single malt whisky that hails from Islay, one of the Scottish isles which has gained a reputation as whisky country amongst aficionados. It’s also the world’s oldest scotch maturation warehouse. The Bowmore Vault Edition Atlantic Sea Salt, to give its full name, is the debut release in a four part limited edition collection of whiskies being released over the next two years.
Specifically about the tipple, it’s aged in ex-bourbon casks housed in vaults of the distillery which benefits from the chilling sea air that is said to give this whisky a salty profile. On the nose you’ll get a hit of salted honeycomb and Atlantic sea spray that goes onto develop into notes of sun-ripened fruits. On the tongue it’s a zingy affair with blood orange and spiced cocoa that builds on vanilla and peat smoke. The rich smoky finish is a lasting one with blackberry, sea salt and kumquat.
Bowmore Vault Edition Atlantic Sea Salt is 51.5% ABV and bottled at 70cl. It’s available from The Whisky Exchange, Selfridges and other retailers, RRP £100.
