Sometimes the discerning gent yearns for a centre piece for his collection. It could be his watch collection, his range of suits or a focal point to his drinks cabinet collection in the case of this particular feature. It’s why this month Elysium Magazine introduces a collaboration spanning jewellery craftsmanship by The Great Frog and great spirits for the drinks cabinet as the Aurora Magnum from Crystal Head Vodka is bestowed with a unique crown.
Fans of the drinks cabinet will no doubt remember the original Crystal Head Vodka being introduced as a mainstay for the discerning drinker by Elysium Magazine years ago. The tipple is the same premium vodka you’ll already know and love. The exception here is two-fold: firstly the Aurora Magnum is probably one of the finest alcohol-carrying vessels anyone will ever see in a collection and secondly, the stunning bottle has now been crowned with what can only be described as the king of all bottle crowns – that acts as a stopper.
Taking a closer look at the crown, it’s made using the traditional methods of handmade jewellery production by The Great Frog – makers of the original skull rings to tie into the theme. Crafted using 18 carat gold-plated finery, it contains a collection of over 100 rubies, sapphires, emeralds, amethysts and black diamonds. The crown isn’t finished there however, as an intricate set of pave diamonds is set around the collar. The actual crown is hand-carved from wax to finish off the masterpiece.
As for the vodka, it’s a five-times distilled spirit that has benefited from a seven step filtration method via Herkimer diamond crystals. However, the Aurora delivers a drier, bolder, and spicier vodka taste. Despite the subtle variation, there is that clean and crisp taste the discerning drinker will want to enjoy simply on its own for best effect.
The Aurora Magnum from Crystal Head Vodka is 40% ABV and bottled at 70cl. The Aurora Magnum bottle featuring the unique crown stopper from The Great Frog is exclusively available from Selfridges from 7th October 2016, RRP £10,000.
