At Elysium Magazine we know the discerning gent is a fan of single malt whiskies. The only stipulation is that it needs to be very good single malt whisky. Which is why this month our recommendation for the drinks cabinet of the discerning gent is the Highland Park Ice Edition 17 year old single malt Scotch whisky.

Highland Park is no stranger to premium quality whiskies. Those familiar with the drinks cabinet feature over the years will remember the numerous expressions of the Scottish distillery we’ve favoured and the Ice Edition joins this illustrious group.

With a bottle looking like something carved out of ice by the White Walkers of Game of Thrones, the Ice Edition celebrates the Viking roots and Norse influence of Highland Park’s Orkney Island home. There is almost a mythical appearance to it. Aged for 17 years in ex-bourbon casks means that the taste is developed and refined with the help of time.

On to the actual tipple itself, naturally vivid in colour despite its glacial feel. On the nose a fruitful aroma of fresh pineapple and ripe mango lace the air with a smoky tint. The palate develops with a misty peat smokiness with shots of vanilla seed. The finish is creamy and rich, where a woodiness is joined with spice to produce a whisky that needs to be savoured.

Highland Park Ice Edition is 53.9% ABV and comes in 70cl bottles, of which there will only be 30,000 available to buy. Ice Edition is available from 11th April 2016 via Highland Park, RRP £190.00.
