Enjoying the experience of a premium single malt is something any discerning gent should enjoy. It’s the reason why your household is so well stocked. Well, prepare to take stock levels up a notch with an addition this month. Elysium Magazine introduces to the drinks cabinet of the discerning drinker, The Macallan Ruby whisky.

The Macallan is well known for the premium nature of their whiskies. Counting fans across the global, these even include Suits very own Harvey Specter amongst their legion of whisky aficionados.

The 1824 series holds the latest single malt scotch whisky releases from The Macallan, a collection that also features Gold, Amber and Sienna – all of which use the same sherry oak cask method. The Ruby is the deepest of the four in the series and has the strongest influence from the wood.

After a long slumber in a dark and quiet warehouse, Ruby is awoken to have taken on the rich red hue from the first-fill sherry oak casks which gives this beauty its alluring glow. The ageing of Ruby is also part of the investment, it’s the oldest of a collection which all of use the same sherry cask method but with less of a duration.

So what about the whisky itself? On the nose it is delicate with notes of figs, oranges, apples and cinnamon. On the palate the subtlety of Ruby continues with honey and spicy tones of nutmeg, ginger and pepper. There’s a long finish with particular hints of apricot and orange once again. The perfect serve is simply straight up or with dash of water or ice to open up the flavours.

The Macallan Ruby is bottled at 70cl at 43% ABV. Available from Selfridges, RRP £160.00.
