It seems ages but the wait is nearly over. Breathe a stylish sigh of relief and pick up a glass of bourbon whisky for the return of Mad Men this April. The famous and trend-setting American TV show returns for a sixth season of slick suits and killer dialogue in the life and times of a fictional Madison Avenue advertising firm.
Of course the star of the show is Don Draper, played by Jon Hamm – the definition of a discerning gent. Always uber stylish in appearance with a wardrobe of the highest sartorial order, he has a way with the women, whilst men crave his position of power in the workplace.
Season 5 gave us deeper insight into the world of Don the man – striving for success with his advertising firm Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce whilst playing happy couples with new wife Megan Draper (played by Jessica Pare) and juggling the needs of his children with demanding ex-wife Betty Francis (played by January Jones).
So what does the new season hold for the fortunes of Don et al? Show creator Matthew Weiner, notorious for giving nothing away, has been as coy as usual in the build up to the first episode in the series. Season 5 did drop some hints like this debate Don has with Roger Sterling (played by John Slattery) in making his intentions for the future clear:
“You’re happy,” said Roger his business partner.
“I am, but what is happiness?” Don asks. “It’s a moment before you need more happiness. I’m tired of living in this delusion.”
“I am who I am,” he adds. “The next thing will be better.”
The finale of season 5 finished with Don at the bar drinking an Old Fashioned (of course) when he was approached by a beautiful women asking if he was alone. Is Don is returning to his old bad boy ways? Elysium Magazine is sure season 6 will uncover all this and more. Ready yourself for a feast of drama, sexual tension and the trademark styling from the 1960’s that’s made the show such a hit.
Mad Men Season 6 premieres on AMC with a special two-hour episode on Sunday 7th April for US viewers.
UK viewers will have to wait three days, until 10th April when the show returns at 10pm to Sky Atlantic.
