Elysium Magazine continues its search for quality dinning experiences, fit for the discerning gent. Sixtyone meets all the requirements from an upmarket restaurant but would it the high expectations set by the menu? Read on to find out.
The Look, The Feel
Sixtyone is set in a prime spot of Marylebone; an elegant and warm entrance brings you into the restaurant, which has one overarching theme in its design – elegance. A beautiful restaurant with subtle touches from the ambient lights to decorated windowpanes, a perfect setting for an intimate date or dinner for a refined group of clients.
Introduced to the upbeat and positive staff we were provided a breakdown of the menu, which is changed on a regular basis. Keen to sample the signature dishes we moved forward with the recommendations from the waiter. To start we went for the very popular Octopus Carpaccio. A beautifully decorated dish, served with red pepper confit and sesame. A visual dish, which resulted in a fair few snaps before tucking in – a delight to taste and certainly one of our recommendations on the menu. The waiter was also able to pair each dish with a wine and cover why the combinations matches the various ingredients. We were very impressed and hoped we could continue the excellent pairing with our main.
The Main Event
Excited by the starter we were keen for further recommendations on the main event. We opted for the Braised Beef shoulder and the Leg of Lamb. Both dishes were presented well and combined with a great variety of ingredients. The beef was served with onion emulsions and locally sourced sea vegetables. The portion size was perfect and the beef was a succulent cut which went down beautifully with the selected red wine – another pairing match made in foodie heaven.
Before tucking into dessert we sought a tour of the restaurant, we walked around loved that the theme of elegance was consistent throughout the building. The private dinning room was one of our favourites. It was popular amongst dinners and on the night we visited we saw a wine tasting class taking place. The team at Sixtyone certainly does cater for all your needs as a discerning diner.
Our last decision was a good one, Chocolate fondant with praline and the Salted Caramel Tart. Both were well portioned and followed the theme of elegance, which was apparent in all the other dishes. Paired with dessert wines we were simply amazed with the consistency Sixtyone was able to produce – across all diners on a busy Friday evening.
Verdict
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Sixtyone restaurant, fantastic food in a stunning setting at a reasonable price. We certainly enjoyed the service by the Sixtyone team and would certainly recommend the restaurant for a unique dining experience.
